If you’ve still got travel on your radar this summer, this article is for you! Packing and prepping for a summer vacation can be daunting. How many of you wait until the very last minute before heading to the airport to throw everything in your suitcase? I have some summer packing and travel tips to start your vacation off on the right foot. Keep reading for my ultimate summer travel tips and you’ll never want to put off your packing again!
Check TSA & Airline Regulations:
Whether it’s the weight of your checked luggage, your carry-on liquids situation, or how long ahead of time to arrive to the airport; it’s always important to check your airline and TSA regulations before your arrival! Each airline is different; some allow you to bring a suitcase that weighs 40 pounds, some 50. Some airlines allow one checked bag for no extra charge while some allow two bags. And during peak summer traveling months, you might be required to arrive at the airport two hours early for domestic flights!
Packing doesn’t need to be stressful! If you know how to pack efficiently, you’re well on your way to an amazing vacation. Always check your destination’s weather forecast before you begin packing. If your tropical locale suddenly calls for a thunderstorm, you want to be prepared. Be sure to pack versatile items that you can get a lot of use out of, like your Ja-Vie’s. These have quickly become my favorite travel shoe because they work in many different climates, are super comfy, and match just about everything – and I can throw them in the washing machine when I get home!
Another bit of advice? Roll your clothing instead of folding it in your suitcase. Not only will this save you space, but also your clothes will end up less wrinkled upon arrival! Pack your shoes in plastic baggies so they don’t get your clothes dirty. You know the plastic bags your Ja-Vie Flats arrive in the mail enclosed in? Save those and recycle them to pack your favorite travel flats in – such a lifesaver!
Keep Calm & Carry On:
Packing my carry-on was always a debacle! Over the years I’ve finally perfected what is absolutely necessary, and what’s definitely not. First of all, make sure your carry-on is the right size – some airlines are very strict and you don’t want to end up checking your bag last minute with all your necessities in it. The must-haves: your passport (for international travel) or ID, currency, any medications, a good book and/or headphones, any jewelry or items of value (or leave it at home!), a small bag of toiletries (like toothpaste and moisturizer!) and change of clothes, hand sanitizer, some healthy snacks, and a bottle of water you purchase after going through security.
Airplanes are drying and dehydrating! It’s not only important to plan to stay hydrated during your flight, but important to stay super hydrated leading up to your flight. Skip salty meals the day of your flight (whether long haul or just a short flight) and opt for water-rich and hydrating foods instead. Moisturize the outside of your body before takeoff too! Your skin will thank you later.
Preparing for travel can be part of the fun of your vacation if done right! With my travel tips, I hope I’ve made your summer travels a little less stressful and a lot more enjoyable. Safe travels, Ja-Vie Gals!
